The Hills Project – Phoenix Civil
APS successfully delivered the construction of a 200+ metre Cirtex MagnumStone MSE (Mechanically Stabilised Earth) retaining wall as part of a newly developed retirement village. Varying in height from 1 to 4 metres, the wall incorporated multiple bends and straight corners, presenting both design and construction complexities. These challenges were met through precise execution and careful site management, resulting in a high-quality, durable outcome.
Project Overview
The scope of works included:
- Design and installation of geogrid tie-backs to reinforce the wall structure and ensure long-term stability
- Separation filter installation between clay and hardfill backfill to prevent material migration and maintain structural integrity
- NDM and geotechnical testing conducted at every 600mm lift, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and quality assurance requirements
Placement of over 1,000 imported retaining blocks, meticulously staged to align with ongoing construction activities elsewhere on site - Phased construction planning to accommodate adjacent development works, ensuring safety, minimal disruption, and efficient workflow
